سلیمان نے ان کی محبت کو جانچنے کے لیے ایک تلوار منگوائی اور کہا کہ بچے کو دو حصوں میں کاٹ دیا جائے۔ ایک عورت، جو حقیقی ماں تھی، فوراً چیخ اٹھی اور کہا، “اسے دوسری عورت کو دے دو، مگر بچے کو نہ مارو۔” جب کہ دوسری عورت نے کہا، “بچہ کاٹ دو، تاکہ نہ میرا ہو نہ اس کا۔” سلیمان نے سمجھ لیا کہ پہلی عورت ہی اصلی ماں ہے اور بچہ اسے دے دیا۔ یہ واقعہ سن کر لوگ سلیمان کی خدا کی دی ہوئی حکمت کی تعریف کرنے لگے۔
